My Quinceañera, Emily // Gulf Breeze, FL //Jessica Salort Photography
This weekend was one for the books! I was honored to photograph the Quinceañera of Emily this past Saturday. It was probably one the best 15th b-day parties I have been to. This girl had so many fun friends that showed up to dance the night away with her. Also she had 2 of her friends serenade her. How loved she is.
For those of you who don't know what a Quince is it's a special time in a young ladies life when they celebrate their 15th b-day. They are celebrating the transition from Childhood to Adulthood. Often a religious ceremony such as Mass is celebrate followed by a party. Often times the young lady asks her friends to join her court and celebrate with her. It's a very popular tradition amongst latinos and very similar to a Sweet 16. My daughter Juliet had one last summer too.
Like many girls growing up in South Texas I dreamed about having my dream day and celebrating BIG. I unfortunately was unable to have one myself I was blessed in a different way instead. Every weekend you could find me celebrating we my friends and their family members who would be throwing these lavish parties. These parties are the type of party that you would definitely invite everyone to. Where I used live there was so many shopping centers with multiple ballrooms and you would just party hop the night away. Those were the days and I remember them vividly.
Of course the party was fun but there were some very serious aspects of this event which included: religious ceremony, presentation of gifts, changing of the shoes, first dance with father, toast, and coordinated dance with your court such as the Waltz. There is really not set way to do things. These are just typical things you would do but you you customize the night of dreams for your sweet child.
Happy Birthday Emily! I hope your day was everything and more sweet one.- Jessica
