Derr Family, Navarre Beach Sand Dunes Portraits// Jessica Salort Photography
I was so excited when Kim Derr asked me if I would take her photos for her and her husband’s joint retirement ceremony. < ----- I live for those btw! Then about a month after she asked me again to take her family photos on her favorite beach a place where her family spent many of their sunny summer days. I was equally excited all over again knowing they trusted me to do this for them because I knew how important these images were for them.
After serving their country proudly for 20 plus years Kim along with her husband Joe decided it was time to retire from active duty. They would then plan their move up North but not before booking their family photos with me. BTW their retirement ceremony was perfect in every way. I will never forget when Joe told his father “he would never miss another duck hunt with him again” those little precious moments get me in the feels you know. Or when Kim dedicated a special flag that she flew with specifically knowing she would be giving it to her proud dad who also served at her retirement. That blog will be up soon. Those photos are so beautiful to not share.
Anyways I had posted a photo recent photo session at this location I often use which is more isolated beach. The lighting is perfect at this location once the sun sets. You get the most loveliest skies here. So much sunrays peak over the sand dunes to give you such a warm sunset. These were photos were taken right before the birds were nesting so we had full access to the beach. I will offer my clients two options for beach photos in Navarre, my options are here for Sand dunes/ Shoreline or Pier/Shoreline.
After much anticipation and planning we arrive at our session only to be met with some very dramatic clouds. Joe the father of the bunch is ferociously watching the radar giving us play by play GPS on the impending storm. Although the skies were not blue we did manage to get the most intense clouds with the warm sun peaking through. Right before the sunset the sun came out and shined with such beauty on us. And as planned by our very own forecaster as we counted down to the last minute of shooting time the clouds finally gave way to the rain. As Kim and I ran we giggled like school girls. We ran like crazy but not before we were soaked.
It’s been a few weeks since the Derr Family has officially left. They have made it safely to their home state. I was lucky to get know them spent time with them here along with capturing some very special moments for them. I appreciate the many sacrifices they have made to our Country and wish them the best of luck on all of their future endeavors! - Jessica
